Some Quick Updates

I know I haven't posted in a while, but there's not much groundbreaking news going on, just lots of work.

Home: I went home for a little while earlier this week, as this is our spring break and I wasn't sure at the time I booked the next time I would be getting home (I have since made arrangements to go home for a week in June). I got in late so I spent the night with my freshman roommate Tim (a little weird but nice seeing him again so soon, as we had lost touch somewhat during my later NCSU days). I was also able to spend a little time with Lydia and a few of her friends. Then I headed straight to Gretna for a family get-together for a kind of combination of Kelly's, my great-aunt's, and my birthdays. Besides that, it was just church, doing taxes, and relaxing, then back out here to the grind. I've found it's good for my mind to get away sometimes.

Classes: Things have been humming along, keeping busy. Cloud physics homework takes a lot of time because of Tim Garrett's abstract questions and difficult math solutions. Climate homework takes a lot of time because of trying to figure out how to program stuff. Synoptic "lecture" is officially over... we will now be forecasting three times a week, for SLC and a floater city. I did very well on my synoptic test, not so much on climate. I am giving a presentation in climate on Tuesday, with another one left at some point. I expect the remainder of the semester to stay busy.

Qualifying Exam: It will go down on May 6-7 (four questions/four hours each day). I have started reviewing material, and then we (grad students) will start having weekly study sessions to go over the old exams. I am quite worried/scared/etc. about it.

Conference: I have officially made arrangements to go to the Tropical Conference in Orlando at the end of April (after I have my climate final). Therefore even more of my time will be used doing research and preparing the presentation. It probably won't be the most exciting trip since I don't know anyone else who is going, and the qual is the next week, so I will likely be studying a lot in my spare time. I am hoping to go to Disney one day while I'm there since I've never been.

Summer: Right now I am doing my best to refuse to look this far out (namely because I need to focus on classes/the qual)... you know, one game at a time... but it's hard not to. Family visits, travel arrangements to the Mountain Meteorology Conference, and applying to go on a field experiment have all required attention. More on these as the time approaches.

I will probably have to go in to work a little this afternoon (this is Saturday by the way) just because I have so much to do at the moment. Boo on the next month and a half. But some of the grad students are having Easter dinner tomorrow night which should be yummy. Happy Easter!
