Catch up of the big events

Seeing that I am not a crazy blogger, I haven't taken the time to write anything in over a month. However, a lot of stuff has happened. In the interest of keeping up to date yet not being boring and long winded, I will attempt to briefly summarize everything.

**Trip Home for Christmas**
It was a lengthy vacation, but I did a lot of things and glad I took the time to do it.
- Met up with Ian, Austin, and Drew (NC State buds) at Mitch's (an old hangout) after I landed in Raleigh.
- Recognized that someone was playing Frogger on their cell phone in the doctor's office (Seinfeld reference).
- Enjoyed a visit with Poo and Bob the Saturday before Christmas.
- Indulged in Virginia delicacies and people (examples mentioned in previous posts).
- Spent Christmas Day with Pa and Susie in Gretna. Got some great gifts like socks, dish cloths, and an electric mixer.
- Went to Pennsylvania after Christmas and got to spend time with dad's family. Came this close to getting artichoke hearts from Dirty Santa.
- NYC trip (see below).
- Bike ride with dad on the rail trail between Sutherlin and Ringgold, VA.
- Met for lunch with Tim, Lydia, and John (a more random assortment of NC State friends) before I flew out.

**New Years in New York City**
What an amazing, enjoyable, smooth trip. Glad I got to hang out with Casey and Kristin... I really miss them. Pictures are on Webshots. The main highlights:
- My first Amtrak experience went smoothly. The train was just crowded and stuffy and I was disappointed I couldn't get a window seat (200 people got on in Pittsburgh alone!).
- End of the NC State bowl game (the bad part) at Casey's apartment.
- Cool bar with a jazz band, ping pong, and Scrabble!
- Intrepid Museum. Lots of interesting exhibits and cool planes.
- Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree. Even the day before New Years Eve, it was hard to move there were so many people. Also swung through Trump Tower and a few other places on 5th Av I hadn't seen.
- Phantom of the Opera on Broadway. It was an amazing performance, but I couldn't get into the opera singing that much.
- Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island. It was a rushed tour, but still very interesting.
- We began our five-borough bar crawl at 1:00PM in Staten Island, and made our way through Brooklyn, Queens, Bronx (where we got a little lost, in the not-best place to get lost), and then Manhattan to ring in the New Year. Every place we went was really cool... and cold... 1 degree wind chill that evening.
- Stroll through Central Park in search of the Enchanted bridge.
- Top of the Rock Observation Deck (GE Building). There were videos in line (none that night though), a Doppler radar, intelligent light display, plenty of space, and a view of the Empire State Building... which caused Casey and I to agree it was better than the top of the ESB.

**Sugar Bowl**
Utah laid the smack down on Alabama. I was excited and proud. I think they could have beaten anyone that night. They had a victory parade and pep rally downtown last Friday that I attended with a few other people. That was cool, and the crowd was spread out enough that I could have literally touched the players. We also got free beads!

**Super Bowl**
The Steelers are in the Super Bowl! I would have never guessed that earlier this season. I'm sure the anxiousness will build up this week. I like their chances but am not taking the Cardinals for granted. I need to figure out if anyone is having a party... if not I'm hosting one!

**O.A.R.**
Someone was seeking people to go to their concert, so I agreed, being as I had never been to a "real" concert (nationally known band). I hadn't heard a lot of the songs, but they were all good. The venue was cool... basically a club-type set up with most of the crowd on the "dance floor." We were about 10 rows of people back from the stage. I got rather stiff standing, but you can't complain about $25 for a 3+ hour concert.
