More Grad School Stuff
I know there's at least one person who enjoys reading this blog (hi Sandy!), so I thought I better keep things up to date.
The trip to Utah was awesome. It snowed, and the mountains are so gorgeous. Everyone there is really nice and laid back. The only negatives I took away were some of the professors/classes seemed rough (but that's probably anywhere), the number/type of classes available, the qualifying exam, and distance from home. Pictures are posted on my webshots page (link on right).
On the down side, my potential adviser e-mailed me and said he was "optimistic" I could join his group, but if that fell through, would I consider working with other faculty. Now Utah is a great place, but I don't want to spend two years doing something I'm not interested in. So that leaves SUNY-Albany, the only other offering on the plate right now. They just seem to have more negatives than positives in my book. But from talking to a professor there and a former student, it doesn't seem real bad. So there is a possibility I could go there, but it would make my decision making process a lot easier if Jim Steenburgh said "Good news, I have a spot in my group."
On an unrelated note, I'm turning 22 tomorrow. Double Deuce. Wow. That's a lot of years. I think I might be getting close to the age where I can say "I remember when XX seemed old." I mean my friends are getting married. That's what old people do, right? That's an entirely different subject though...
